Hey! This is Liliane Uwase
I’m from Rwanda, a humanist photographer based in Yaounde, Cameroon. My lens is drawn to the stories many people overlook, stories of resilience, dignity, displacement, and hope.
As someone who has experienced displacement, I know what it means to be forcibly uprooted, to lose everything familiar, and to begin again. Photography found me before I found it. It became my way of saying: we are here, we matter, and our stories deserve to be seen.
Photography is more than images to me it is memory, truth, and dignity. As someone who has experienced displacement, I understand what it means to feel unseen, unheard, or forgotten. Through my work, I bring visibility to the people, emotions, and stories that many overlook.
My photography is rooted in humanity. I use my lens to document resilience, identity, hope, and the quiet strength that exists even in difficult circumstances. Every photograph is my way of saying: your life matters, your story matters, and you deserve to be seen.
I approach every shoot with intention and respect. Whether I am documenting a community event, capturing a portrait, or telling a story through a series of images, I take time to connect with the people in front of my lens. I believe the best photographs come from trust when someone feels safe, their true self comes through.
My process is simple: I listen first, then I create. I work with natural light and real environments because I want my images to reflect life as it is honest, beautiful, and full of meaning.
I can never say no to a good cup of coffee. I love golden hour more than any filter. I once taught myself to edit photos on a borrowed phone. I think every person has at least one photograph in them that could change the world. And yes I always take way more pictures than anyone asks for.
